A group of our Year 12 and Year 13 students took part in the national competition ARTiculation run by The Roche Court Educational Trust. Each student built an insightful research project based on their own artistic interest and gave a presentation on this work to a panel of judges. In January, project leaders, English Teachers Ms Akroyd and Mr Muggeridge, accompanied our school finalist, Year 13 Julia Jopkiewicz, to the regional heat at Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts. At the heat, which involved eight schools and was judged by curator John Bloomfield, Julia constructed a unique and fascinating presentation. The talk demonstrated incredible academic rigour, critical thinking skills and clear confidence in the delivery of her speech. The curator and judge of the competition thanked Julia for her perceptive talk which championed the world of fashion and gave it a prominent place in the studies of art history.
Congratulations to Julia, who was informed after the event that she had won the ARTiculation travel award and will now get the travel budget she needs to see the art show of her choice, plus write a review of it for ARTiculation, which will see the start of her work in the alumni network there.
