Sam Clemmett, star of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, works with Attleborough Academy Year 10 and Year 12 Drama Students.
This week, Attleborough Academy were thrilled to welcome Norfolk born actor Sam Clemmett into the Academy to work with A Level and GCSE Drama students. Sam, who has risen to worldwide fame this year in the coveted lead role of Albus Potter in the West End phenomenal show Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.
Head of Drama, Sian Jones, invited Sam into the Academy as she has known him since he was a young child. Along with Drama teacher Clare Williamson, Sian was also Sam Clemmett’s GCSE and A Level teacher at Thorpe St Andrew School. For the last two years, Attleborough Academy has benefitted from Sian’s expertise and enthusiasm for inspiring Drama students.
Sam generously gave up his time, on a rare break from the show to work with the Attleborough students. He took part in script readings with the Year 12 students and helped them perfect movement techniques that are a key part of their A Level course. Sam then watched a performance by the Year 10 GCSE Drama students (which the group are currently rehearsing in preparation for a performance at Norwich playhouse in March).
During Sam’s afternoon at the Academy, he spoke eloquently about his life as an actor and how he progressed from an early role after A Levels at the Open Air Theatre Regents Park, through to gaining the most desired role this year in London's West End.
Sam spoke to the Year 12 students about the rehearsal process behind the Harry Potter show and he also commented: “I love my job and want to inspire many people to work hard and be creative, whilst still being a good human being” All the students were exhilarated by the experience. That evening, Sam tweeted about his visit to the Academy: “I had such a lovely afternoon @AttleboroughAN meeting and chatting to some of their students. Enthusiasm and energy in abundance. Thank you!"
