Shoeboxes – Link to Hope
Thanks to the generosity of students, parents and staff, Attleborough Academy filled and wrapped 48 shoeboxes with presents and essentials for people in need. These were taken to the collection point in Norwich with the help of Mrs Tyrer’s form, and a few elves in Year 9…. The boxes of gifts have now been transported to families and the elderly in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine and Bulgaria in time for Christmas.
Thank you to everyone who contributed toys and treats, sweets and soap, gloves and games to the Link to Hope Shoe Box Appeal this year.
When the weather starts to turn colder, it is suddenly easier to imagine how hard Christmas would be in deprived places around the world. The Family Shoeboxes of gifts are given to families who often have to make a choice between buying food or fuel at Christmas time – buying presents is just not a priority. Many of these families do not have running water, heating or electricity. Some live in appalling conditions, often living in just one or two rooms, and life for them is a real struggle to survive. Due to the number of elderly people that are now being left alone as their families leave their homes to find work, there is now also an Elderly Shoebox Appeal.
Special thanks go to those students who organised and wrapped their forms contributions – including some very generous students in our Sixth Form.
So, next time you have an empty shoe box, or some old Christmas wrapping paper, or an unwanted gift that could make someone happy, please save them for October 2017!
