U14 Netball Team
The under 14 netball team played in the south Norfolk netball tournament at the beginning of October. Having beaten all teams in the group phase, including Wymondham College they progressed to the semis. Drawn against Thetford Grammar, the Attleborough Girls played really well, comfortably bringing the ball down the court in the safe hands of Blod and Amelia and on point shooting from Tilly Warren – Peters saw the girls progress to the final where they met Wymondham College again. College put out a strong team and were determined that we would not beat them again. Goal for goal was matched by both teams, but College managed to pull away in the second half. However, second place was good enough to see Attleborough through to the National Schools competition in November.
November 12th 2016 – National Schools Competition
Bringing Emily Cole up from year 8 to make a team of 9 meant there was a good variation in combination that could be played.
Game one we met KES, Emily Cole (who went on court as Goal Shooter saying she could not shoot) together with Tilly Warren Peters were sinking goals from any area of the circle. 8-0 Attleborough. Next up was Ventre who had strong attacking player which meant they matched every goal we scored in the first half. However soon Attleborough settled into their game and pulled away winning 10 – 6.
Next up we met Norwich School, the girls know this is going to be a difficult match and to start we were able to match every goal of theirs. However their defence grew with confidence and eventually they were able to prevent most of our shooting opportunities. The girls fought extremely hard and the score does in no way reflect the game: Norwich School 11 – Attleborough 3.
After a team talk the year 9 girls pull themselves together and after another tough match they beat Alderman Peel 12 – 8, meaning that they are able to go through to the Semi’s.
They face Norwich High School for girls. Straight away Norwich High School pull away with a four goal lead, but Attleborough settle into their game and pull the score back to a 1 goal lead to Norwich High school. Everyone plays to the best level of Netball and the game is evenly matched throughout, but Norwich High School just take the win 12 – 9.
With emotions running high Attleborough play Alesham for 3rd and 4th place, but injury and tired legs mean we are unable to sustain the level of excellent play we had shown throughout the morning. Alsham win 8 – 6.
So Attleborough finshed as the 4th best school in the county – a very deserving result.
Well done girls – I am extremely proud of each of you!
