On Monday 20th of July, the year 11s officially left the Academy after 5 years of study and the completion of their GCSEs. Although many of them will be returning to pursue their sixth form studies, for a few of them it would be a goodbye. To recognise the hard work they have done with their revision, it was a day of celebration. The Year 11s came in fancy dress and there was a wide variety of costumes, from a Nineteenth Century gentleman, to air stewardesses, to the Flintstones, a bob-sleigh team, an astronaut and many film characters. The Year 6 students who were visiting the Academy for the day voted on the best dressed characters. The awards went to Gemma Woods, dressed as Freida from the film Shrek, and Luke Cox who came as a human gallows. Both were awarded with a free Prom ticket.
The Year 11s had a Leaver's Assembly where pictures of their life in the Academy were shown, and enjoyed. Then Mr McShane and Miss Mair gave out prizes for academic achievement and exceptional effort, before a final presentation showing pictures of them when they joined the Academy five years ago. My, how they have changed. This was followed by a parade around the Academy with photographs being taken before enjoying the Leaver's Barbeque, in thankfully warm, sunny weather. It was a lovely way to celebrate the achievements and Academy life of the Class of 2016.
