The Annual Year 8 Inter-School Maths Quiz was held on 16 June 2016.
Attleborough Academy took part in this Maths quiz, designed for Year 8 students, at the UEA in Norwich. The quiz has been running for 35 years and this year, 19 teams from across Norfolk and North Suffolk took part.
It was run by UEA lecturers and staff from the Maths department. A team of 4 students were selected for their progress, determination, team spirit and love of a challenge. Dan Bint (Captain), Blod Grant, Tilly Warren-Peters and Sam Harvey made up the team.
All 19 teams played in 2 rounds with the 3rd round being played by the top 3. During the first 2 rounds, Blod showed great nerve when presented with a tough division question. Sam showed quickness of mind by answering a detailed question on averages in just a few seconds. Tilly showed excellent algebra skills with a particular question and Dan demonstrated incredible accuracy with his estimation skills.
All 4 students worked effectively as a team which was proved by them reaching the final with 86.25 points (Hethersett Academy were on 87 and Acle Academy on 86 by this point).
The final round was much tougher and again the team pulled together to continue to do well. After half an hour of team and individual questions, Attleborough Academy came second on 27 points.
Hethersett Academy were winners with 34.5 and Acle Academy came third with 26.5 points.
All schools were respectful of one another and it was brilliant to see so many enthusiastic children enjoying taking part in a Maths quiz.
Dan, Blod, Tilly and Sam represented the Academy so well and with strong competition, showed great determination and composure. Well done team!!
